Opt-in landing page idea for viral marketing

If you are a solopreneur, coach, consultant, entrepreneur or service professional and you are building a list (and you should be), every bit of effort towards that end counts! So that means you should be using standalone squeeze pages, back-links pointing to those squeeze pages, opt-in form on your website above the fold, sharing links above and/or below your blog posts and the list goes on. You can check out a post I did about 14 ways to build your list.

Back to the topic of this blog post though. Once someone has opted in to your list to sign-up for your video series, e-course, e-report, e-book and newsletter, you should ask them to help you spread the word. When it comes to spreading the word virally, I find the easier you make it for people the better. Offering various options helps too. Plus, going the extra mile by making your case for why they should help you spread the word, more than just the fact that you are trying to build your list can be the icing on the cake.

Designing a special opt-in landing page

Most autoresponders ( I can’t say all because I have not tried them all) allow you to specify a link where your subscriber will be directed after they have confirmed their subscription. Usually, this is the link to the webpage that has links to your free gift(s): e-report, e-book, e-course as the case might be. You can maximize/utilize this landing page to ask your new subscriber to invite others to subscribe to your list and receive your free gift. Here is what you can put on this page:

  1. Text link(s) to your free gift
  2. Video – brief intro about you and/or your purpose for offering your service, your free gift, starting your blog. State who it is intended for – basically describe your target market and your desire to help more people to achieve the success that you have in your area. Then ask the subscriber to share this information, this free gift with someone they might know who it would appeal to.
  3. 2 or 3 main sharing links – Use actual clickable links that will automatically share your squeeze page with not much extra effort on the part of your subscriber.
  4. An email link – This part might be a little tricky if you are not very technical. I actually use a text box that contains the text for an actual email. All my subscriber needs to do is copy and paste this into their email client, put their friend(s) email in the ‘To’ field and hit ‘send’.

Here are the codes to put this on your landing page.

Note that I use the WordPress.org platform for my blog, but I believe these codes will work in Blogger and on an HTML web page as well. Also, these codes will have to be placed into your WordPress content area using the ‘HTML’ mode. You can select your editing mode at the top right corner of the box where you type your blog posts. See the picture below with an example.
how to switch to html mode in wordpress

Also, it is best to use a text editor to copy and paste the codes from my blog post and into your blog post. Sometimes, when you use Word processing programs like Microsoft word, they put extra characters into your code when you copy and paste from there into an HTML editing program. This could throw things off a bit.

Your link will look like this:

Here is how you will customize it for yourself

BONUS TIP
There is another tool that you can use to create a text link for Twitter. You can go either way. But it is good to know the code just in case the service I am about to share is no longer available. The tool is called ClicktoTweet. You can find them at ClicktoTweet.com

This is what your link text link will look like:

Here is how you would customize it:

Send an email to your friends

This one is pretty straightforward. All you have to do is put your message between the opening and closing brackets. Start to substitute your text where it says ‘SUBJECT’ and end where it says’useful’.

BONUS TIP

You can also create a link that your subscriber can click to automatically open his/her email client and the subject and message will be automatically populated. All they would need to do is to enter the person’s email address.

Action Challenge
I challenge you to hold yourself accountable and take action. If you see the benefit in tips in this post, make your own landing page and share the URL in the comments field. Of course, you should omit the link to your free gift like I did and instead invite the viewers to subscribe for your free gift. I look forward to seeing your landing pages and good luck with your list building and viral marketing.
